Part afro-cuban, part jazz, part classical – baCLAVE is all real – grooving deeply, speaking strongly, with immense energy and profound sophistication. It has very much to do with the Cuban clave as it does with the delicious Balkan baclava – a musical experience with no boundaries.
Led by Croatian-born flutist Damjan Krajacic, the band is a true tour de force, featuring some of the most prolific jazz and latin-jazz musicians in the world. Alongside Krajacic, the group is complemented by the core of Cuban drummer Jimmy Branly, and, depending on Europe vs US tours, pianists Matija Dedic or Otmaro Ruiz, bassist Goran Delac or Ahmet Sezin Turkmenoglu, and trumpet player Leider Chapotin.
We are working on the new album recording, which is scheduled to be released in 2019, along with the Europe summer 2019 tour! Please see below for related music and videos.
RELATED REVIEWS
“…Very impressive!”
~ Jose Rizo, Host of “Jazz On The Latin Side”, KKJZ 88.1
“Flutist Damjan Krajacic debuts with a five-piece band that includes Joey de Leon, Cokie Garcia, Serge Kasimoff and Rigoberto A. Lopez on the CD In Retrospect, co- produced by Danilo Lozano. The repertoire was authored by Krajacic, with the exception of a couple of tunes composed by Miles Davis and Chick Corea, and it grooves from beginning to end.”
~ Latin Beat Magazine
“Even more striking is his approach to the flute, where he uses a range of extended techniques which, far from being grafted onto the melodic line, become an integral part of it, extending not only the voice of the flute but the language of jazz improvisation itself… For those interested in where the flute can go in jazz this recording is a must.”
~ Flute Journal, 2016
“From beginning to end, Visions captures the light and shadow of its creator, a collection of mind movies that is spellbinding and hypnotic.”
~ Jazz Corner, 2015
“… Visions needs to be heard as a whole for each selection segues logically into the next one, forming a magical trip through the universe that listeners will not soon forget.”
~ Scott Yanow (of LA Jazz Scene, All Music Guide)
